COPILITHOUSE

Annotation

The conversion of the Běchovice water tower responds to its historical context and urban presence. A disused industrial structure is transformed into a fully functional residential and communal space designed for athletes attending camps and training sessions. The entire original reinforced concrete structure and the appearance of both tanks are preserved, emphasizing the tower’s iconic silhouette. The shaft is wrapped in a new square-shaped, semi-transparent copilit skin that unifies the old and the new. It lets in soft daylight while creating a subtle visual barrier between interior and exterior. A circular wild water pool at the base symbolizes the spilling of water from the tank—suggesting the loss of its original function, but also an effort to capture water again and bring new life.
