In the Modeling Studio and Workshop, interconnected assignments focused on both manual and machine processing of materials were given throughout the year. In the winter semester, the task was to create two spatulas from hardwood – one made by hand, the other using machines. This was followed by modeling an enlarged paint tube from clay, producing a plaster cast, and applying a patina. The summer semester revolved around the theme of a personal monogram. The initial assignment was a graphic composition made from paper, which was followed by work with plaster, HPS board, laser-cut cardstock, pressed wood, steel sheet, and iron wire – all with an emphasis on the transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional form.
