Annotation
The design of this lighthouse on the Faroese island of Kalsoy was shaped by its harsh climate, which calls for a safe refuge, an observatory, and stable living quarters. My concept rests on the idea that the island's inland scenery is more visually engaging than the open sea; therefore, the building focuses on the island's internal stability. The lower section, partially built into the slope, follows the landscape's contours and merges with the cliff. The vertical structure consists of two reinforced concrete towers separated by a half-meter slit. Acting as guardians of the living spaces, they define the layout: forming a tight defensive shield to the north while opening wide toward the land.
