FA 2050: Challenges and visions. The first colloquium on curriculum innovation was held
11/4/2025

The colloquium focused on reflecting on current developments, analyzing the current state, and searching for ways to improve and innovate faculty curricula in the future. It discussed the need to simplify the structure of the study and revise its content in view of the profession's transformation and today's challenges. An important point was also the promotion of an interdisciplinary approach as a basis for comprehensive education.
The programme was divided into three thematic blocks, which offered space for expert presentations and open discussion. The DAMU ombudsman Petr Polák moderated the meeting. In the opening session entitled Reflection and Vision, Dean Emeritus Ladislav Labus summarized the development of teaching architecture and urbanism at the CTU, while Dean Dalibor Hlaváček introduced the new concept of teaching quality based on a professional and value-based approach, development of pedagogical competences and evaluation and continuous innovation of study programmes. Zbyněk Tonar from Charles University introduced the concept of "Learning outcomes", the benefits of using this tool for teachers and shared his personal experience with implementing learning outcomes at his home institution.
The second session, subtitled "Getting Started", was devoted to analyzing current curricula and the basis for their revision. Dalibor Hlaváček presented in detail the curricula of the Bachelor and Master programmes in Architecture and Urbanism, Landscape Architecture and Design. Šárka Malošíková presented the first part of the results of questionnaire surveys among teachers of studios and professional subjects focused on their suggestions reflecting the current teaching in the Architecture and Urbanism programme. The Vice Dean for Studies Jiří Šrubař and Jana Kubcová, coordinator of the Architecture and Urbanism programme, focused on a detailed presentation of the study load based on the new Methodological Guidelines of the CTU. They also focused on its evaluation in the courses and studios listed by teachers in last year's questionnaires and on the influence of semester organization on its distribution.
The final session, Finding the Way, inspired the attendees from the practice of foreign universities, particularly TU Vienna, TU Munich, TU Delft and ETH Zurich. Šárka Malošíková, the coordinator of the Architecture and Urbanism programme, presented the current trends in the development of the curricula for Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes in architecture. Dalibor Hlaváček then presented the main principles of the structure of the new curriculum with regard to the international qualification framework, mentioned the need to focus teaching on the challenges of the future and interdisciplinary cooperation, to perceive learning as a never-ending process and to strengthen the internationalization of the Faculty. He concluded by presenting a timetable for further progress and opportunities for participation.
The presentations from the colloquium can be viewed on the Faculty's intranet in the section dedicated to curriculum innovation.
The event promoted not only the exchange of professional opinions but also the establishment of new contacts and the deepening of cooperation between lecturers from different departments of the Faculty. Open dialogue and the sharing of ideas will be the main goals of the next colloquium, which will take place on Friday, 16 May 2025, under the subtitle Less is More.
