Marek and Štěpán Chalupa won the Architect of the Year award
6/10/2025

The Architect of the Year award has been presented since 2008 to highlight individuals who have made a significant contribution to the development of architecture in the Czech Republic over the past five years. The expert jury assesses the quality of completed buildings and long-term contributions to the profession, as well as the ability to cultivate the environment and public debate on architecture.
The work of Atelier Chalupa is characterized by a restrained, conceptually clear expression and an emphasis on detail. Significant projects include the vestibule of the Kolbenova metro station, the Metropol Hotel on Národní třída, part of the ČSOB headquarters in Prague's Radlice district, and the Belárie II apartment building in Prague-Modřany, realized in collaboration with Ladislav Lábus.
This year's winners were selected by a jury composed of architects Josef Pleskot, Jan Kasl, Hana Seho, and Dagmar Šubrtová. The jury particularly appreciated the consistent focus on high-quality architecture, regardless of the size of the project, as well as the ability to find balanced solutions between the needs of the investor, public space, and the architectural form itself.
The award ceremony took place at the Center for Architecture and Urban Planning (CAMP) in Prague. An honorable mention was awarded in memoriam to philosopher and architectural theorist Petr Rezkov. The special Architect of Municipalities 2025 award went to Lukáš Soukup, city architect of Jindřichův Hradec.
