Design Experiences
The lecture series Design Experiences focuses on providing experience in interdisciplinary areas of design practice and theory. The aim of the lectures of important Czech and foreign experts is not only to expand the overview of current design topics, but also to create a wider network of students, researchers and experts and to build a space for possible future cooperation.
Cycle 02 – autumn 2021
The lecture series Design Experiences organized by the Institute of Design will during October present three foreign designers and their experience from research and practice. Berlin based creative studio Chmara.Rosinke, British tutor and researcher from the Royal College of Art in London Dr. Robert Phillips and associate professor and head of research at the Geneva School of Art and Design Anthony Masure will present their work and approach to the design process.
'Ecological Citizenship' Designing toward as a catalyst for social change
Speaker: Dr. Robert Phillips
When: 20. 10. 2021 at 17:00
Where: MS Teams
We are in an age of rapid change. The days of the 'designer' will solve 'all' are colonial and anti-progressive. Design is a catalyst for social and global change. This requires us to change as much as our means and processes to design with and for. Designer‘s responsibility is starting to become at the forefront of the discipline as we are the problem and solution to proposing more sustainable and accessible outputs/impacts. The Ecological Citizenship talk will cover a research project (My Naturewatch) and other works in progress that operate in this way from a design-led perspective.

Design & Machine learning: automation takes command?
Speaker: Anthony Masure
When: 22. 10. 2021 at 18:00

Although the concept of “artificial intelligence” (AI) is already old, its presence is constantly growing, whether in medias, pop culture, or everyday objects. Today, self-learning” systems (ie. deep learning) could replace tasks commonly assigned to designers: there is a risk that design becomes an automated way of doing things and services, and formats human experiences. How are these issues addressed by designers? What can design do “with” artificial intelligence?
