Theoretical Thesis on Hempcrete Production and Delivery

Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

This diploma project addresses the systemic barriers preventing the mainstream adoption of hempcrete in contemporary construction. It proposes a new framework for material integration not through prescriptive detailing, but through a constraint-responsive decision-making tool tailored to real-world site, labour, and sequencing conditions. The research identifies key technical, logistical, and regulatory challenges that natural materials face, then develops a non-linear matrix and accompanying handbook to guide architects and builders in selecting viable hempcrete construction methods. By aligning method selection with project constraints, and embedding this strategy within practical tools and sequencing logic, the project aims to normalise hempcrete within standard architectural workflows and accelerate its uptake in mainstream building practice.
