Marou The Power of Community is a multifunctional renewable energy and resilience hub located in Marou Village on Naviti Island, Fiji. Rooted in local traditions and materials, the project integrates solar energy generation, water harvesting, waste management, agriculture, and community spaces into one interconnected system. Central to the project are three energy towers inspired by traditional Fijian architecture and boat-building, which host solar panels and fog-collecting mesh to supply electricity and clean water. Around them, a network of systemsincluding helophyte filters, biogas units, aquaculture ponds, and farmlandcreate a self-sustaining ecosystem where each element supports the others. Designed with 85% locally sourced biodegradable materials, and constructed using traditional techniques with community participation, the project reduces costs, emissions, and dependence on external resources. It strengthens local livelihoods, supports biodiversity, and fosters a sense of shared ownership and stewardship of infrastructure. More than a utility installation, the project tries to show an example of climate adaptation through cultural continuity, sustainable development, and collective care.
