Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

The topic of the diploma project is the redefinition and restoration of the urban fabric of the historical center of Cheb, which has been severly affected by demolitions in early sixties. Current building activity takes place in locations remote from the city center or even in the suburbs. The aim of the thesis is to examine the possibilites of concentration of the building activity into the medieval part of the town. Special attention has been paid to the residential architecture as a tool for rehabilitation of incomplete urban blocks, intesification of public spaces and activities taking place in them. By means of architecture and urbanism, the project strives for the restoration of the role of the historical center as the most important part of the city and essential identifying element for its inhabitants.
