CONVERSION OF FORMER MILITARY STRUCTURES IN OLOMOUC

The Ring of Olomouc is a project that aims on revitalization of borders between city and landscape. The conversion of 12 former military fortresses around Olomouc serves as a basic structure for landscape concept. This idea study presents possible vision of transition as penetrable green belt composed of various ecosystems that encircles and defines the city, sometimes entering it in form of green wedges facilitating local access. Proposed design deals with issues of agricultural fertility, current built structures, building reserves and protected natural areas. Both circular and radial connection fullfills the city´s potential to create rare recrational, ecological and cultural-historical system.
