Orten Square

Orten square is a natural center of Lower Holešovice. It has a great potential to become one of the most important public spaces of this developing Prague neighbourghood, which is so far missing a central square. One of the current issues of Orten square is a negative influence of traffic and the presence of drug addicts which is also accompanied by other social pathologic phenomena, such as homelessness. The topic of my thesis is the revitalisation of Orten square. The aim is to design a public space – square – which is attractive to wide range of users and social classes and lively at any time. A place to meet, to spend free time, with a clearly recognisable character and image. Another important aspect is security and social control, which will be achieved by decreasing the scale of the square and clear hierarchization of its individual parts.
