URBAN DEVELOPMENT CONCEPTION ALONGSIDE METRO D
Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project
Annotation
It can be assumed that the construction of the Metro D line will create new local facilities in the vicinity of some stations. With the influx of people daily commuting to stations at these new centers, there will be changes in the competitiveness and attendance of existing centers throughout the metro catchment area. This work is primarily concerned with a system of existing facilities. The first ambition of the work is to identify, evaluate and, above all, find the rates of possible future development, competitiveness and range of facilities of individual centers as a prerequisite for enhancing pedestrian attendance within the overall concept. The main starting point for evaluating and strengthening centers is their current quality and quantity of services evaluated against the Belgian theoretical model of ideal saturation of amenities, the number of development areas in the immediate vicinity and the spatial configuration of the centers. The second ambition of the work is to find places with the highest concentration of people as a natural indicator of the quality of public space. Link these sites to the hiking system through individual local centers. The main starting points in this case are a field survey of places with a high concentration of people, the quality and character of public spaces, the morphology of the terrain and the negative externalities of heavy traffic routes. The prerequisite of the work is that a lively town with available services and the option of choosing a city of short distances, where people like walking and spending time in public space, and a city where people are not reliant on commuting for services must have the following characteristics: For most people, the local center must be within 5 minutes walking distance The center must satisfy the basic needs of all inhabitants in its catchment area. The individual facilities have to have a good public pre-serving space. These centers, along with parks, have to be linked to a pedestrian system, so they can choose between shopping centers and services to increase the number of visiting customers and thus the range of services due to the increasing economic demand for them. The footpath system has to lead on not very steep roads, places with the possibility to create (or maintain) a high-quality public space full of sensory sensations, encouraging rest or making a call. In the detail of the urban planning, the main ambition of the project is to create a local Krč center in the Thomayer Pre-Throne Hospital as a contemporary neighborhood without the need for new high-rise dominants, with clearly defined public space composed by the character of the territory, good permeability and a great deal of atmospheres and character. A neighborhood with a mix of the use of land (a functional mix) as a prerequisite for the existence of day-to-day life in the public space. The main starting points of this part of the thesis are the character of the territory and its compositional relationships, the main directions of movement of people, the busy streets of Vídeňská street and the sloping morphology of the terrain.
