URBAN CONCEPTUALIZATION OF EDGES BASED ON PRAGUE 8
Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project
Annotation
Edge, interface, or brink. Conceptualization of edges shapes questions of perceiving the concept on multiple levels. An edge is a boundary, a dividing line, a separation of two elements, an end, and a beginning. At the same time, it is an interface, an overlapping, an in-between space, or a place or situation that we perceive as intangible. Prague 8 serves as an experimental object for examining these properties. Observation leads to reflections on what causes the fragmentation of the place, its inaccessibility, but at the same time identifies the values it can carry. The edge is a tool for reading the place, but also a wound that has severed relationships within the area. Horná Libeň forms the design part of the project, showing possibilities for enhancing the locality that has become an edge and is surrounded by edges. A large part of the area exhibits several types of difficult-to-cross places (both tangible and intangible). The work attempts to address this theme and create a functional and vibrant place.
