Tribute to Rabindranath Tagore
"If you cry because the sun has gone out of your life, your tears will prevent you from seeing the stars." (Rabindranath Tagore, Bengali poet, novelist, playwright, composer, painter, herald of the rapprochement of East and West, Nobel Prize winner for architecture.)
The Cabinet of Languages organised a literary and musical afternoon in his honour. Indian music on the background of estraj and tabla was interpreted by the great Elena Kubičková and Tomáš Raindl. English became Rabindranath Tagore's second mother tongue. Quotations from his works were read in the English original by Brian Hodgman. The translation was recited by Veronika Strnadová. All under the careful supervision of the Head of the Languages Cabinet of the FA CTU PhDr. Kateřina Valentová.
"Clouds come floating into my life from other days, not to pour rain or bring storms, but to give color to my sunset."
"Faith is a bird that sings while the night is still dark."
"The richest people are the ones that can give up most things."
(verses and quotations were taken from Dusan Zbavitel's translations from Bengali)
