Nusle Library

Bc. Tuan Anh Tran

Annotation

The space beneath the Nusle Bridge, currently used as a parking lot and gas station, is the proposed site for a new public library. The design responds to the bridge's structure, placing the building between its pillars where Oldřichova Street now runs. It’s framed by public spaces: a sunken café garden to the south and a small tree-lined square to the north, leading toward Folimanka Park. The library has a dynamic, slanted footprint contrasting with the static bridge. Its front faces the Svatoplukova tram stop. A large overhanging roof, supported by striking columns, along with a lighter upper reading room, evokes the form of a supported bridge.
