Czech prisons suffer from overcrowding, understaffing and high recidivism - up to 70% of those released return. Our design for a women's prison near Tabor offers an alternative: architecture that supports community, therapy, work, family ties, and privacy. We have a strong focus on mothers with children - a separate pavilion with a secure yard, play areas and the opportunity to be with a child up to the age of three supports key early attachments. The centerpiece of our prison is a spacious park that serves both the women inmates themselves and the visitors who are the only connection the women have to the outside world. The entire area is connected to agriculture and manufacturing, which allows women to gain work habits and better prepare for life on the outside.
