Baptistery

Katerina Srbecká

Annotation

The baptistery is designed as a quiet space for pause, reflection, and spiritual focus. In the context of Vyšehrad, it complements its surroundings and introduces a minimalist space for inner contemplation. With a circular layout centered around the baptismal font, seating promotes an intimate atmosphere. A small chapel for personal prayer and a priest’s area create balance between privacy and community. Symbolically, the baptistery connects the nearby maternity institute and the emerging cemetery – birth and death, beginning and end. It forms a third point: a place for spiritual renewal and stillness. The restrained architecture emphasizes light and material. Concrete and daylight shape a subtle, ever-changing scene without the need for decoration. It is a space where silence speaks.
