THE NATIONAL LIBRARY IN THE PRAGUE PARK FORTIFICATION BELT

Among the shelves, in quiet rest, the fate of days, the ages’ crest. Footsteps echo through the walls, time drifts softly in these halls. Outside, the world is swift and loud, but here, eternal words are proud. Words like rivers, flowing free, writing tales of history. Each page a witness, old yet true, the library—a temple too.... I am removing the highway barrier between Nové Město and Karlín with Florenc—the North-South arterial road. I propose a National Library. I am allowing the emergence of Prague’s "Ringstraße," lined with public buildings of urban and even national significance.
