FORMER CITY WALLS – PARLIAMENT

Adam Zbořil

Annotation

Democracy is not founded on monuments, but on balance and dialogue. A composition of smaller volumes, each oriented differently, creates a harmonious whole. Public space reconnects previously divided parts of the city; the highway gives way to an urban boulevard. The proposal for the parliament emerges within the context of a new urban belt between Nové Město and Karlín. It consists of several volumes of varying scale and orientation, forming a compact yet open whole. The layout responds to the surrounding street network and creates a transitional forecourt. The façade follows a regular grid, emphasizing depth and rhythm, bridging the human and urban scale. Its expression is calm and legible – focused on structure, rhythm, and public character, without excessive grandeur.
