ŠEMÍK BREWERY

Martin Ulč

Annotation

The Šemík Brewery is designed as a metal structure defining the typology, which is built into a spacious underground hall made of colored concrete. The hall itself is a conversion capable building that can serve other purposes in the future. Beer production takes place linearly along the brewery, separated by a glass wall, which provides visitors with direct visual contact with the process. The brewery thus supplies not only distribution but also its own extensive catering operations. Large tilting windows allow the interior to be connected to the exterior, expanding the space during warmer periods. Thanks to its embedding into the slope and minimal above-ground interventions, the building is inconspicuous in the landscape and responds sensitively to the historical context of Vyšehrad.
