A Critique of Pure Typology

Priyansh Sharma

Annotation

What pressures specific to the 21st century does the combination of programs impose on architectural form? The concentration of many social activities within an architectural form has warped a pure building type. In recent decades, developing nations have experienced the most radical migration from rural to urban sites in human history. In response to these emerging challenges, there is a pressing need for new conceptual frameworks. This critique positions Researching by Design as a means to critically reinterpret the conventional notion of the “single-function building.” This approach makes it possible to explore inventive architectural forms and propose hybrid typologies that integrate living, working, recreation, and cultural functions—thereby serving as contemporary social condensers.
