Annotation
The loss of freedom is punishment enough – there is no need to strip a person of their dignity as well. Our surroundings shape us, and prison environments even more so. In the Czech Republic, these spaces are often cold, repressive, and dehumanizing. The high recidivism rate shows that change is needed. My design responds with an emphasis on safety without cruelty, dignity without luxury, and control without humiliation. I use durable yet welcoming materials: marmoleum, milled wood, colored concrete, waterproof coatings, molded plastic chairs, and stainless steel fixtures. Color is essential – people need it. Every detail is meant to communicate respect and support calm. I believe space shapes behavior – and architecture has the power to encourage positive change.
