Composite Vimperk

Filip Ježdík

Annotation

Vimperk is a city of layers, materials, and contrasts. It is a dramatic urban formation shaped by the steep topography of the Šumava Mountains. The building is conceived as a spatial collage that condenses the diversity of the entire city into a single volume. The city layers itself both vertically and horizontally – from the Volyňka river valley, through the historic stone walls of the castle, to the post-war developments embedded in the slopes. The building is constructed as a diverse mix of typologies and materials – ranging from maisonettes to tower living. Each floor becomes a lively intersection of distinct forms of dwelling. The building acts as an architectural shorthand of the city. A microcosm whose structured complexity resonates with Vimperk itself.
