Ny-Alesund

The design concept of the hangar itself is derived from the remoteness of the site which is rather difficult to be reached either by car or anything else than a ship or a helicopter. As a result, the design uses ready-built steel lamellae along with cast iron joints. Further stability is ensured by four pairs of truss girders with drawbars to stabilize the whole structure. The sheating uses composite laminate panels so as to allow for maximum use of daylight.
