Kostelni square

Kostelni square – an opposite of the square Premyslovcu. Quiet stone square, a church, a courthouse, and vernacular houses in opposition to a busy square formed by town houses, town hall and crossed by a thoroughfare. A square defined by its surroundings, a front, a wall… Peace and absence of rush are its qualities. A small grassy place on a granite plinth in front of a church seems undue – exposed public greenery in context of an Elbe landscape a hundred metres below the square doesn’t bring an essential quality but disrupts the squares integrity. A sensible but bold intervention is required. I propose a wall. A wall as a firm border. A wall which defines the square. A wall humble to the church’s verticality. A wall which gives purpose to the existing greenery.
