Echoes of crime

Jakub Vachta

Annotation

I drew my inspiration from detective stories, especially iconic detective duos like Holmes and Watson. I wanted the diagonal street dividing the building into two towers to resemble an alley — one that evokes calm, yet also suggests uncertainty and movement. The tower closer to the river is primarily residential, while the second has a more work-oriented function. The ground floor houses a bookstore, the upper floor a detective agency, and the top two floors a café. The towers are connected by simple footbridges. I see the cage-like structure surrounding the building more as a supportive framework than a boundary. I liken it to solving a crime, where understanding often requires seeing beyond the surface and resisting the instinct to remain trapped within a narrow or comfortable view.
