As part of the Modeling and Workshop Studio, we worked throughout the year on a series of interconnected assignments that combined both manual and machine-based work with a variety of materials. The winter semester began with the creation of two wooden spatulas – one made entirely by hand, the other using machines. Their functionality was tested through modeling an enlarged paint tube from clay, which was then cast in plaster and finished with a patina.
The summer semester revolved around the theme of a personal monogram – first as a graphic composition, later as a spatial object. Starting with paper, we moved through a relief vacuum-formed from an HPS board into structures made of laser-cut plywood, layered wood, bent sheet metal, and wire.
