To Live in a Chessboard

Vojtěch Čepelák

Annotation

A house for chess enthusiasts. The floorplan of each floor is devided into ‚squares,‘ which change their sides in every floor as checkboard. The same motive can be seen on the facade with dominant square opening filled out with glassblocks. The opening provides natural lighting for the interior and the inhabitants of the house are connected to the square through it, while the opaqueness of the glassblocks keeps their privacy. The ground floor is a place where chess boards and pieces are handmade. The 1st floor is accessible to the public to relax and play chess on. The entrance to the adjacent ale-house allows for the two places to share customers and creates new social opportunities in the city of Cheb. From the 2nd floor up there is a flat.
