Amber house

Annotation

Opava is a historic merchant town that was an important stop on the great "Amber Road" that connected the Adriatic Sea with the Baltic Sea. The "Amber House" stands on the site of the old merchant buildings and functionally as a modern building, it continues the historical trading tradition. Amber is a fossilised resin. For this reason, the material for the walls of the building is monolithic concrete, which is a "fossilised" liquid cement mortar. The terraces of the building are open to the sun, as amber is likened in legend to the second sun. The modern building allows citizens and visitors to experience anew the natural beauty of amber and the culture of its use for various purposes, while reminding them of the city's historical mission.
