New Dimensions: EAAE and Faculty of Architecture CTU launch registration for European Conference on Architect Education

The conference, hosted in Prague from 25 – 28 August 2021 by the European Association for Architectural Education (EAAE) and the Faculty of Architecture CTU, begins its registration. The event with the theme of educating architects, urbanists and landscape architects will take a hybrid form.

EAAE (European Association for Architectural Education) is an international organisation bringing together over 130 European Schools of Architecture. Its mission is to improve the quality of architect education and a common architecture policy in Europe and to promote debate and exchange of information in the fields of architectural education and research.

The conference entitled New Dimensions is organized by the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU in Prague, the Faculty of Arts and Architecture of the Technical University in Liberec, the Faculty of Architecture of the VUT in Brno and ARCHIP.

The topic will focus primarily on reflecting the scaling up and intertwining of disciplines in practice and education. “We are on the threshold of a new dimension of our profession, when the scale of our interventions and influences on the environment is being increased and our work and education needs to be looked at more comprehensively, in terms of the intertwining of disciplines,” presents the thesis of the conference Dean of FA CTU Ladislav Lábus.

Around 150 guests from European Schools providing architecture education will attend the conference to discuss the following key topics:

  • Role of the Architect: how new dimensions of environmental and social problems affect our understanding of the role of architect in society and the design process,
  • Universality of Architectural Education: how the principle of the universality of architectural education can be maintained in the context of the increasing complexity of our society,
  • Overlapping Disciplines: how architectural education in an environment of overlapping occupations should prepare students for the new dimensions of our profession.

The conference is planned as in a hybrid form, with some participants physically present and some connecting online via a platform. "EAAE conferences have had a long tradition as a platform for critical debate as well as for meeting and establishing important international contacts. We are all looking forward to a physical meeting with colleagues from the European Schools. Thanks to the hybrid version, guests who are not allowed to travel will be able to attend," explains the chairman of the organizing committee and EAAE Governing Board member Dalibor Hlaváček.

Registration takes place on the conference website under this link. Early bird registration may be used until 15 July. Attendance and online participation are differentiated, with a preferential fee for participants from EAAE member schools. Students can attend the conference online for free, and in person for a symbolic entrance fee. The fee includes full participation materials, entrance to the conference and refreshments.

The conference will follow the current epidemic measures of the Ministry of Health and other possible regulations applicable to CTU. Complete information including a detailed programme and accompanying activities is available on the conference website.
