Piranesi Award for Petr Hájek

Prof. Petr Hájek received an honorable mention in the International 2021 Piranesi Award competition for his project of a pet crematorium in Drnov called Eternal Hunting Grounds, which he completed in the Petr Hájek Architekti studio together with Martin Stoss and Cornelia Klein.

Petr Hájek managed to turn a truck bunker into a building that is both airy and grounded. The magic of the shimmering mirrored wall lies in the way it dissolves into the landscape and embodies a sense of otherworldliness. The simple element creates an otherworldly experience in which pet owners can find solace.(Photo: Benedikt Markel)

The Piranesi Prize for Quality Architecture is open to architects from the Czech Republic, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Austria, Greece, Slovakia and Slovenia. It has been awarded annually in autumn since 1989 in the Slovenian town of Piran (the prize was named after the 18th century Italian artist and architect Giovanni Battista Piranesi, who was from Piran).

Architects' works are always nominated by national selectors, who usually propose five buildings from their country. Petr Hájek received an honorable mention in this competition in 2014 for the Krkonoše Environmental Education Centre – Petr Hájek (Honorable Mention 2014) and was also a member of the HŠH architekti team that received this award for the reconstruction of Horní náměstí in Olomouc in 2001.
