Councillor for Strategic Development and Conservation Ing. Eva Smutná and the Faculty of Architecture of the CTU in Prague invite you to the exhibition Proposed vision for the development of Veleslavín at the Skleňák Gallery, nám. Svobody, Prague 6. The exhibition presents the best projects of the students of the Klokočka - Zdráhalová studio developed in the summer semester of the academic year 2020/2021. Come and see how they dealt with the studio assignment and how they designed the urban structure of the historical village of Veleslavín and its surroundings.
In creating the designs, the studio cooperated with the Hradní potok civic association, which is interested in showing the potential of the site and preventing further deterioration of the castle and other buildings. A significant role was played by the cooperation with the Prague 6 City Council, specifically with the councillor for strategic development and conservation, architect Eva Smutná.
Veleslavín was a medieval village that used to belong to the Břevnov monastery. The castle in its centre was built in the middle of the 18th century, the castle park is currently the only green oasis, while active development and intensification of traffic significantly complicates the passability of the whole area. In the immediate vicinity of the area lie Evropská třída, Buštěhradská railway and the bus station, which together with the metro form a busy transport hub. The heart of this hub will be the new Veleslavín station, the design of which we already know from a recent architectural competition. The area lacks a local centre, a quiet, cultivated public space and public facilities that could be located close to the historic park, which needs to be restored in view of its importance but also its current needs. It is also increasingly important to optimise the links between areas in the wider context and to find a suitable concept of public space, both local and supra-local.
