First mental aid or When the soul shouts– Klára Neumannová, Dominika Drahovzalová
Are you often caught off guard by students' acute emotional expressions such as crying, anger or anxiety? Do you sometimes feel unsure how to help your students properly without harming them? We understand the challenges you face. That's why we're here to prepare you for how to handle such crisis expressions in others and, importantly, to emphasize the value of self-care. The seminar will be divided into two parts: 1. first psychological help for others, 2. self-care or how not to go crazy.
In the first part, the workshop will explain what triggers the crisis in the lives of the students/teens and how they experience it in terms of behavior, thinking, and emotions. It will illuminate not only the risks of psychological crisis but also the opportunities that this disruption of psychological balance brings. Attention will also be given to the coping mechanisms of students, both conscious and unconscious, and to recognize when the sufferer is able to handle the crisis alone and when professional help is crucial. This understanding is key to effective crisis management.
The second part of the workshop is where we roll up our sleeves and focus on practical self-care strategies. This is the practice of working with oneself so that we are not surprised by the emotional expression of others at that moment and are able to react promptly while not being overwhelmed by such states. This part will be interspersed with practical exercises of working with oneself. We'll also delve into the importance of setting boundaries when working with students/teens in crisis and making healthy adjustments. By the end of this workshop, you'll feel equipped and confident in your ability to handle crisis situations.
The workshop will be interspersed with case stories and practice in model situations. The workshop will also include referrals to follow-up services and an explanation of the entire system of helping a person in crisis. We want you to feel secure in the knowledge that support is available. In addition, iconography on "What to do when someone is feeling down" will also be provided.
This workshop focuses on developing the student's critical skills in receiving and using feedback effectively. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the differences between constructive and non-constructive input and learn how to handle both types of feedback. Through hands-on exercises and group discussions, learners will explore their personal experiences with feedback. They can share their perspectives and gain new perspectives from their peers.
This workshop is ideal for students who want to strengthen their personal and professional development skills and who recognize that feedback is a key tool for continuous improvement and growth. Through a constructive approach to feedback, participants will be better prepared to face challenges in the academic environment and in their future professional careers.
