Annotation

Virtual reality is a medium providing an immersive spatial perception. This a new way of creating space which brings a large potential. Like every medium gaining new awareness, vritual reality is also seeking its own language and meaning - basically a form and function of digital space. The diploma thesis builds on a narrow relation between space and creating memories within human mind. There are quite a few memory techniques taking advantage of this connection, for example the memory palace technique. This allows people to retain a big amount of information in their long term memory which can be used for learning a new language. Memory palaces work on the base on mnemonic devices that are fictively distributed in a given space. A specific memory palace was designed in virtual reality benefiting from the knowledge gained by studying a theory of digital space and by analyzing the memory techniques. Functionality and effectivity of the design was tested on a group of individuals, who were able to walk through the digital space. Based on the evaluation of the collected data a new prototyp was designed.
