CONNECTION
Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project
Annotation
In this work, I understand connection as the linking of the past with the present and future. Many historical buildings have lost their original function over time and have fallen into disrepair, especially religious and industrial structures. My goal is to highlight their potential and propose a way to reintegrate them into the life of the city through a new function. Using the specific example of the revitalization of an unused synagogue in Vrbové, I propose the rejuvenation of the entire area through three approaches: reconstruction, renovation, and new construction. The synagogue, currently non-functional, gains new meaning as a multifunctional hall within a reconstructed cultural center, complemented by studios, club rooms, and classrooms. This socio-cultural space is created through the reconstruction of former dormitories of a defunct factory in the vicinity and is further enhanced by the addition of a new hotel with a restaurant. The design aims for a realistic approachnot only architecturally, but also functionally and economically. A place that once served as a center of spiritual life has the potential to once again become an active hub of gathering, culture, and social interaction.
