ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The aim of this thesis is the design of the new elementary school at the chosen site. This work is divided in two parts. The first part explores general aspects of an elementary school, compares past, present and possible future forms of elementary education. One chapter is dedicated to a so called alternative education in the broadest sense as a source of possible inspiration for a standard educational system organized by state. Selected examples are explored and compared to study typological and organizational schemes of schools. Printed literature, conducted interviews and personal visits to school buildings serve as sources of information. The aim of the first part of the work is defining a research question and the site for the elementary school is found in Čakovice - a community close to Prague. Principles for the new elementary school are set within the second part of the work. Based on the consultation with the representatives of the community and the local elementary school the decision is made to design a new elementary school as an extension of the existing school building. The so called campus of elementary schools with a capacity of approximately 1500 pupils is designed. The second part of the work contains documentation of the design proposal. The first part is part of the preparatory semester for the Master's thesis and was filled with additional information and reorganized during the Master's thesis semester.
