THE NATIONAL LIBRARY

The National Library is situated in between Prague main railway station and The National Opera, around the "Prague Ringstrasse", the North-South Highway. By its volume it creates an imaginary gate that aspires to humanize the highway to a city avenue and to provide, on top of a former fortification, a respectable entrance to the old Prague. Also, together with the National Museum it encloses a new square at the end of Politických vězňů street, which is dominated by the opera building.
