CONVERSION OF FARMHOUSE IN VILLAGE VYSOKÁ

Helena Cuřínová

Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

Nowadays big rural farmhouses as well as gentry farmyards become an endangered building type, slowly disappearing from Czech landscape. The collectivization and discontinuity of ownership have rarely allowed agricultural and breeding activities to persist in them, and it is difficult, if at all possible or wished for, to return to their original purpose. The diploma project explores the possibility of converting a rural farmhouse for the use of its owner, who intends to inhabit the building as well as to use it in business for non-agricultural purposes. The architectural and urban qualities of the existing buildings are rehabilitated and replenished with new buildings. The farmhouse thus not only begins to coexist within a neigbours´ community, but it also participates in the life of the whole neighbourhood and its wider surroundings.
