The Metamorphosis of the Old Bubeneč Cemetery

The main idea was to create spaces for different ways of storing remains. These places are symbolized by natural elements. The first element is water, located at the cemetery entrance, symbolizing the beginning of life, a symbol of birth, where a water feature is placed for the deposition of remains into the water. The next place is symbolized by earth, which represents home, where stone slabs are placed for storing bodies from terramation. Another element is air, associated with movement and transience, where ornamental grasses sway in the wind and serve as a place for scattering ashes. The final element is fire, which signifies death or purification. Here, there is a space in the form of perennial flower beds that serve for the deposition of remains in the form of eco-friendly urns with seedlings, symbolizing new life.
