Mutual continuity - Marrakesh

Annotation

Marrakech is a city in the southern part of African Morocco. This important city is a center of trade, industry and a popular tourist destination due to its extensive history, culture and architecture. The whole of modern Marrakech is surrounded by the old city (the so-called Medina), which is full of small and winding streets and the locals offer you everything possible in the street markets. From exotic crops to handmade leather handbags or shoes. In the urban design, my colleagues (Ceyda Alkara, Giulia Signorotto) and I tried to solve the burning problems in the Issil area on the eastern forecourt of the Medina. The problem was not only the river itself, whose regular floods annualy ravage the city, but also the presence of the so-called Tannery Quarter.

my key experience from erasmus

Although I went to Italy to design architecture in Milan and ended up in urban planning in Africa, I was very pleasantly surprised. The greatest experience is working on a project that does not have the standards of European cities and sociologically, culturally and urbanistically works completely differently. In search of reference studies, we have often moved in projects operating in similar areas as Morocco and in similar climatic conditions. Thanks to this, we often drew on examples (Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Oman), which would probably be useless for designing in Europe.
