Under the Glass Shingle

Annotation
Beneath the Glass Shingle
In the landscape beneath the ski slopes of Deštné, on the site of the vanished Karolína glassworks, a group of buildings revives the craft traditions of the Orlické Mountains. A new glass studio, gallery, and short-term lodging connect to local heritage while seeking ways to sustain crafts in today's world. Existing buildings are preserved, stripped of later layers, and adapted without stylization, with emphasis on authenticity. A single new pavilion complements the ensemble. All buildings share shingle roofing with irregular glass inlays that let daylight through the structure. The project links making, exhibiting, and staying, supporting local makers and extending the site's use beyond tourist seasons.
