Menstrual product dispensers

Starting January 1, all schools in the Czech Republic will provide free menstrual products for everyone who menstruates. At Designblok 2025, students from the Faculty of Architecture are exhibiting three designs that could become sought-after products in the future – more than fifty units have already been produced, including for restrooms at other CTU faculties and at the Academy of Fine Arts. Pavlína Poláková focused her design on ease of production and affordability, making it possible to place the dispenser in as many buildings as possible. It is divided into two sections, with a capacity of about 25 tampons and 16 pads. The dispenser is made of stainless steel and can be painted in colors chosen by the client. It is washable and easy to refill. The perforated front panel makes it possible to check whether the dispenser needs refilling without opening it. A side stopper limits the drawer’s tilt to prevent products from falling out. The dispenser can be mounted to the wall either by screwing or gluing.

těpán Šuster’s design is based on the floor plan of the Faculty of Architecture. The dispenser size corresponds to 10 × 10 cm tiles, and the structure contains a horizontal section for tampons and a vertical section for pads. The composition is complemented by a sticker that can be printed with a QR code linking to the project website or client’s site.
The dispenser holders are attached to the wall by screws or adhesive, making it easy to handle the dispensers themselves – they can simply be slid out, refilled, and slid back in, with small stoppers preventing them from falling out. Narrow slits on the sides of the sliding boxes allow for easy stock control. The dispenser is made from a single metal sheet bent into its final shape – this type of construction makes production simple. The metal is finished with a powder coating for increased durability. The dispenser holds up to 50 pads and up to 150 tampons.

Tereza Cvrčková’s design emphasizes easy maintenance and maximum simplicity – both in production and in use and refilling. The dispenser is made only from laser-cut and bent sheet metal, with no joints, and finished with powder coating. One of the main advantages of this design is that it can be hung on a door, minimizing installation requirements and allowing the dispenser to be moved whenever needed. The dispenser consists of two parts – one for pads and one for tampons. Users can use only the pad section or simply hang the tampon dispenser onto it. The overall design is minimalist and complemented by a clear pictogram, which also appears on the hanging hook, so users can easily see from a distance whether the dispenser is available in a cubicle. The product can also be manufactured in a non-hanging version, in which case it is screwed or glued directly to the wall.
