The contestants solved how to improve the so-called barn building. It was originally a baroque building that was part of the economic and administrative area of the town. The nearby Kladno Castle and its garden are popular places for citizens, where cultural events are held and wedding ceremonies take place. The castle houses a small gallery and several permanent exhibitions. The intention of the architectural competition was to preserve the essence of the listed building, which contains a generous hall space roofed with an original Baroque roof truss.
The jury was headed by the architect David Vávra, Ondřej Rys, councillor for city development, František Műller, city architect, Irena Veverková, historian, Olga Lebedeva, winner of the last edition, Petra Melčová, deputy mayor and Zdeněk Slepička, secretary of the municipality. The competition, supported by the Czech Chamber of Architects, is intended for both students of conventional and landscape architecture who have not reached the age of thirty at the time of the announcement of the competition. Traditionally, the task of the contestants was to prepare urban planning, architectural or design studies of a site or building in Kladno.
The competition commemorates the contribution of its prominent native Antonín Raymond to world architecture. It commemorates the man who was awarded honorary citizenship of Kladno in memoriam in 2010 and whose death in November 2021 will be 45 years ago.
