Sustainable architecture, linocut or cultural monuments in Italy. University of the Third Age at the FA
14/10/2022

After a two-year break, the Department of Theory and History of Architecture will welcome the audience with the series For Sustainable Architecture. The course focuses on current issues of sustainable architecture. David Seidler, a doctoral student of the department and an architect, has become the new supervisor. According to him, the inspiration and impetus for abandoning the historiographical concept of the course came from societal events and the growing public interest in alternative solutions to the global environmental challenges of architecture. The breadth of the topic is illustrated by the rich selection of individual lecturers, who are doctoral students of the FA CTU and personalities of Czech theory and history of architecture. The lectures focus on the architectural and urban design of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Three courses are offered by the FA Cabinet of Languages. In the ten-part series Transformations of Prague's Architecture, taught in German and French, students will learn about Prague's most famous monuments. The lecturer Ing. Mgr. Zuzana Krýzlová will guide them chronologically through architectural styles from different historical periods. The courses consist of 7 meetings at the FA and 3 guided tours.
In the course Italy not only from the language point of view, the lecturer PaedDr. Naděžda Bonaventurová virtually guides students through interesting cultural sights, including the lesser-known ones. The course also includes practice of basic vocabulary and conversational expressions useful for travel.
The Department of Fine Arts has prepared a course on Linocut Technique. Participants will learn basic information about the history of this art technique and create their own illustrations and prints. The teacher Ing. arch. Jiří Kárník and Mgr. MgA. Radek Macke will introduce them to the individual stages of the linocut process – drawing out the image, transferring it to linen, creating a matrix for printing using chisels, applying the paint and overprinting the image with pressure on paper or fabric. The course ends with a small exhibition.
Up-to-date information on the range of courses offered by the University of Third Age can be found on the CTU Lifelong Learning Portal.
