The Department of Architectural Design II of the FA CTU kindly invites you to the student scientific conference School of Architecture 2024: With Head and Hands, which will take place on 12 April 2024 at the FA CTU and will be dedicated to teaching design-build projects at schools of architecture.
The aim of the conference is to share current approaches to design-build education and to find a way to further the direction of design-build education in the Czech Republic, e.g. through a closer connection of the design-build studio with professional subjects.
Three foreign teachers will present: Michael Hughes, former Head of the Department of Architecture at the American University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, and Marie and Keith Zawistowski, who teach design-build projects at ENSA Grenoble in France, and who previously spent many years at Virginia Tech in the United States.
Submissions are welcome from undergraduate, master's or doctoral students who have been given the opportunity to participate in design-build projects at any architecture school in the Czech Republic while studying architecture. The content of the entry should summarize the course of the project (assignment, group work, main challenges of the semester) and present an authentic personal experience from the student's perspective.
The conference will be co-moderated by Rick Sommerfeld, who will be a Fulbright Specialist at the FA CTU in April. Sommerfeld leads the design-build program at the Colorado Building Workshop at the University of Colorado Denver. His lecture will be held on April 11, 2024 at 6 p.m. at FA CTU in the Gočár lecture hall.
The event will be held in English.
Deadline for submission of paper title and abstract (max 800 characters): 22 March 2024
