We cordially invite you to the screenings of videos of the project “Dear Architects… — Ethics in Architecture” with follow-up discussion about the ethical questions in architecture with project curator Karolína Plášková. The event is organised by the Department of Architecture Theory and History FA CTU.
The project “Dear architects…” attempts to trigger a discussion about the role of an architect in the current society (in the Czech, and Slovak, context) – how it is understood by architects themselves, but also other professionals researching on societal and environmental issues (such as social geographers, urban sociologists or anthropologists, political scientists, art historians and theoreticians, philosophers, artists, economists, politicians etc.).
The second year of the project focuses on the topic of ethics in architecture and in the form of dialogue it attempts to show ethical dilemmas which the architects have to deal with in their practice. Ethical issues related to social and political overlaps of architecture are discussed in eight video interviews between urban researchers and authors of projects which represent certain consequences connected with their implementation – the public space as a control instrument, gentrification and commodification, privatisation and commercialisation, depoliticisation and managerialism, touristification or projects in non-democratic regimes.
The project “Dear Architects… — Ethics in Architecture” is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, the State Fund of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Statutory City of Brno.
