Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

This diploma thesis focuses on the design of a sustainable residential building located on the site of the former Azovstal steel plant in Mariupol, a city heavily affected by war. The aim of the project is to contribute to the citys recovery through an innovative, inclusive, and ecological approach to housing. The design responds to the need for a safe and flexible living environment with an emphasis on human scale, accessibility, community life, and the integration of protective elements such as civil defense shelters. Inspired by Scandinavian urbanism, the project applies principles of sustainability, including renewable energy sources, rainwater recycling, and rooftop urban agriculture. The thesis also proposes the urban transformation of part of the brownfield site into a functional residential and park zone as part of the broader regeneration of the post-war urban structure.
