CONVERSION OF A HISTORICAL BUILDING IN THE KARLÍN BARRACKS COURTYARD

The diploma thesis is a loose continuation of the pre-diploma seminar prepared in the Tichý studio, in which I focused on mapping the character and scale of block development. During this research I identified certain anomalies in the structure of the city - one of them being the Karlín Barracks, part of which became the subject of my thesis. The theme of the thesis is the conversion of a historic building in the coutryard into an arts and entertainment centre. My aim was to propose a solution that would be sensitive to the historical value of the building, but at the same time offer a functional operational arrangement and a clear justification for the proposed interventions. The design also includes consideration of the use of the courtyard space.
