Architecture and Urbanism, MA diploma project

Annotation

The city of Ústí nad Labem has been struggling with the consequences of post-industrial transformationpopulation decline, economic stagnation, and fragmentation of the urban structure for a long time. Despite these challenges, the city holds significant development potential thanks to its location, university, and planned infrastructure investments. One of the key opportunities for regeneration is the proposed high-speed rail connection between Prague and Dresden, which will include a terminal in Ústí nad Labem. This diploma project responds to this opportunity by proposing a vision for the citys renewal, with a focus on the area surrounding the future high-speed rail terminal. The design introduces an innovation district that links research, entrepreneurship, and modernized industry, while also creating a high-quality urban environment with new housing opportunities, public spaces, and civic amenities. The high-speed rail is approached not only as a transportation project but also as a catalyst for urban regeneration and reconnection at both national and European levels.
