SOFT CITY
Landscape Architecture, MA diploma project

Annotation
The diploma thesis deals with the issue of public spaces in the city of Prachatice with the aim of showing that the design of cities with regard to the needs of more vulnerable groups of residents such as children and adolescents, seniors, women, caregivers, people with health disabilities or low-income groups leads to the creation of better quality urban spaces for all. The thesis is divided into theoretical, analytical and design parts. The theoretical part elaborates on the specific needs of selected vulnerable groups and the planning principles that respond to them. The analytical part is devoted to the analysis of the city of Prachatice, and key problematic areas were identified based on surveys, observations and interviews with users. The design part is prepared in the form of a conceptual study of four selected locations: Parkán park, bus station, public space near the polyclinic and U Rybníčku park. The proposals focus on improving the permeability and safety of the space, creating pleasant and relaxing places and supporting community and intergenerational meetings. The thesis demonstrates that the application of sensitive planning principles within landscape architecture contributes to strengthening equality and care in the city.
